Emergency plumber and 24 hour plumber in Southend-on-Sea

When water is escaping, every minute counts. We take emergency calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across Southend-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea, Westcliff, Shoeburyness, Rochford and the surrounding towns. We aim to reach urgent call-outs within about an hour, depending on where you are and what we are already attending.

While we are on the way we will talk you through isolating the water to limit the damage. On site we find the cause, make it safe and, because our vans carry the common fittings, finish many repairs on the first visit. If a part has to be collected, we tell you before we go.

Typical jobs

  • Burst and split pipes
  • Water coming through a ceiling or wall
  • Overflowing toilets and cisterns
  • Leaking hot water cylinders and immersion heaters
  • Stopcocks and valves that won't turn off
  • Blocked toilets and waste pipes backing up

Plumbing repairs

Most of our work is everyday plumbing repairs: the drip that has been going for weeks, the tap that won't turn off, the pipe that whines whenever someone runs the water. We look for the cause rather than just treating the symptom, so the same fault doesn't come back next month.

From a recent jobA customer had a high-pitched whine every time a tap was opened anywhere in the house. The pressure reducing valve on the incoming main had failed. Replacing it stopped the noise straight away.

Typical jobs

  • Dripping, stiff and broken taps
  • Stopcocks and isolation valves
  • Pressure reducing valves
  • Float and ball valves
  • Leaking joints and fittings
  • Low water pressure

Blocked sinks, toilets and waste pipes

Most blockages we clear come down to grease, food waste, hair or wet wipes. We start with the simplest fix and, where needed, strip down the trap and waste or use a mechanical drain rod to clear the whole pipe run, then test it with running water before we leave.

If you can, please don't pour caustic drain cleaner into a sink that is already blocked. It sits in the pipe and makes the job hazardous for whoever has to open the trap.

Typical jobs

  • Blocked kitchen sinks
  • Slow basins, baths and showers
  • Blocked toilets
  • Blocked soil stacks and waste pipes
  • Replacement traps and wastes

Leak detection and water pipe repairs

A damp patch on a ceiling, a water meter that keeps turning or a bill that has suddenly jumped are all signs of a hidden leak. We work methodically from the most likely source (bath and shower wastes, concealed cistern connections, radiator valves and joints under the floor) and open up only what is needed to reach it.

Once it is found we repair or replace the failed pipe or fitting and leave you with a clear explanation of what went wrong, which is useful if you need to speak to your insurer or landlord.

Typical jobs

  • Leaks under baths and shower trays
  • Leaks behind wall-hung toilets
  • Leaking radiator valves
  • Isolation valves and compression joints
  • Water supply pipe repairs

Toilet repairs

A toilet that runs all day wastes a lot of water, and on a water meter it adds up quickly. The cause is usually a worn fill valve or flush valve, and both can normally be replaced in one visit.

We also repair toilets that leak when flushed (often a perished flush cone or seal), leaking pan connectors, and wall-hung toilets where the cistern is hidden behind the wall.

Typical jobs

  • Cisterns that keep running
  • Weak or failed flushes
  • Leaks when flushing
  • Leaking pan connectors
  • Wall-hung toilets and concealed cisterns
  • Blocked toilets

Bathroom plumber

From a new pair of basin taps to a thermostatic shower that has started running too hot or too cold, we handle the plumbing in your bathroom. Recent jobs include a replacement bath mixer and shower, a new inset basin and taps, and a wall-hung toilet refitted after its connections failed.

From a recent jobA shower that would only run hot was down to a worn thermostatic cartridge. We identified the valve, sourced the right cartridge and came back to fit it.

Typical jobs

  • Basin and bath tap replacement
  • Shower valves and thermostatic cartridges
  • Bath and shower mixers
  • Basins, wastes and traps
  • Toilets and cisterns
  • Leaks from baths and shower trays

Boiler plumber: heating, radiators and hot water

Plenty of heating problems turn out to be plumbing problems: a leaking radiator valve, a leak that keeps making the system lose pressure, or a hot water cylinder or immersion heater that has started to weep. We repair and replace radiators, radiator valves and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), and we hold ERS accreditation for installing and servicing unvented hot water cylinders.

Typical jobs

  • Radiator repairs and replacement
  • Radiator valves and TRVs
  • Leaks on heating pipework
  • Unvented hot water cylinders
  • Leaking immersion heaters
  • No hot water from the cylinder

Work on the gas side of a boiler must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Describe the fault when you call and we will tell you straight away whether it is a plumbing job we can fix.

FAQs

Plumbing service questions

Why does my shower suddenly only run hot or only run cold?

On a thermostatic shower this is usually a worn or scaled-up thermostatic cartridge inside the valve. Replacing the cartridge normally cures it without replacing the whole shower. If you have the make and model, tell us when you call so we can find the right part.

What is the high-pitched noise when I run a tap?

A whine or whistle whenever water is used can come from a failing pressure reducing valve on the incoming main, or from a worn valve or washer in a tap or cistern. We track down which one it is and replace it.

My toilet keeps running into the pan. What is wrong?

Usually the fill valve isn't shutting off or the flush valve isn't sealing. Either way water runs constantly, which is costly on a water meter. Both parts can normally be replaced in one visit.

Can you fit a food waste disposal unit?

Yes. We install food waste disposal units under kitchen sinks, including the new waste pipework and connections, and we can take away the old trap and fittings.

Will you take on a small job like a single tap?

Yes. Small jobs are a big part of what we do. Hourly-rate work has a minimum charge covering the first hour, so it can be worth listing anything else that needs looking at while we are there.

Not sure which service you need?
